LA EDUCACIÓN NOS HACE IGUALES / EDUCATION MAKES US EQUAL

🏅WINNING MURAL FOR THE IES ZORRILLA HIGH SCHOOL🏅

What would I’ve liked to find every morning when I went to the Zorrilla?

Most likely it would’ve been something that comforted me as a student, or something that as a teacher would’ve made me feel proud of my high school, its values and the profession.

And very important; something in which I saw myself represented.

This mural aims to show art as an integrating element between students, teachers, the historic center and the Rondilla neighborhood.

Therefore, with this mural I wanted to point out the values of the institute, its historical character, the gardens on which it was founded, integration, movement, sustainability and the education that brings in all together & makes us equal.

i started sketching my idea on paper and making colour proofs

Education is symbolized by a book.

That’s why the flowers, which represent the students, grow from it.

The various types of flowers, colors and face expressions refer to the multiculturalism of the center. Also, some of them are happy, others not so much, because there are days when you're simply not happy, and that also has to be shown.

The bees hovering around the flowers are an ode to ecology and the sustainable nature of the center by working with the 2030 agenda.

with the character designs and the colour palette done i did the finised illustration that won the open call

The base of the mural, the door, makes the symmetry of a book very convenient, since opening it is a bit like opening that book of knowledge and experiences that a high school offers and that occur on the other side of the door, once you cross it.

The colors used throughout the mural are similar to those found in the restored buildings of La Rondilla, which we see right in front of this door. It is a chromatic range of 7 colors that harmonize with each other, which allowed me to represent the diversity i needed.

The result is a colorful, eye-catching mural, full of life, and with great symbolic meaning for the center.

then it was time to paint!

i had so much help

and finally, with the design, the school decided to make the school diary for that course
