ÁCIDA NAVIDAD / ACID CHRISTMAS

HA, HA, HA

I’ve been lucky enough to participate in the first collective exhibition at 💓Ácida Gallery💓 together along with other wonderful women illustrators and artists.

escena costumbrista navideña del matriarcado en tu familia

Christmas traditional scene of matriarchy in your family

My mother and aunts weren’t that happy when Christmas approached. My cousins and i always saw it as the best time of the year; we would get together to play, dress up, eat, watch TV... and have a lot of fun.

What we didn't see was all the work that was behind it. Whenever I got to Grandma's, one of my aunts had already been there for 3 hours cooking with her. My aunts had organized the menu weeks before to go shopping, and after every meal, they were gone because they took turns to clear the table, wash and dry the dishes, while the rest of the family sat around chatting, napping, or playing cards.

Nobody questioned it.

Let's not kid ourselves. Obviously, they did it with pleasure and with all the love in the world, but all that work could have been better distributed, don't you think?

They could have laughed more, and less sarcastically.
